A HISTORY THAT SPANS OVER FIVE DECADES

Tropic Plastic & Packaging Industry was founded and established in 1963 by the Bhabha Family. The vision was to provide quality packaging materials coupled with personalized service excellence at an affordable price. Tropic Plastic & Packaging Industry [Pty) Ltd is excited to announce a new chapter in its growth story. This follows the acquisition of a significant shareholding in Tropic by a consortium of investors comprising Nedbank Private Equity (“NPE”), the Mineworkers Investment Company (“MIC”) and the existing Management team (led by its CEO, Ismail Simjee).

The current founding shareholder of Tropic will retain a shareholding in the business. While maintaining the principles and foundations on which it has been built, Tropic embraces a new phase of growth opportunities as it evolves from a family-owned business. Tropic aims to continue to add value for all stakeholders including customers, suppliers, employees and broader community interests.

This investment by NPE and MIC is testament to Tropic’s business and its market-leading position in the packaging sector. The new partnership will offer Tropic’s long-standing and new customers and suppliers the commitment of continued business and financial stability with significant potential for growth and innovation in new product development and unwavering standards of quality and service offerings. Tropic places significant focus on being a leading sustainable and environmentally responsible packaging producer in South Africa, and as such it remains committed to investing in and advancing its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards.
